Q & A

Is chiropractic effective?
Most people seek chiropractic care for pain relief and that is what we deliver. Chiropractic achieves this by removing postural imbalances and structural misalignments that can accumulate in our bodies over time. Chiropractic works by clearing nerve pathways, thereby removing pain, and restoring your inborn ability to be healthy.

Why should I see a Chiropractor?
Chiropractic offers great benefits for the patient and is completely drugless, non-invasive and painless . Most people begin  chiropractic care for back and neck pain, but discover much deeper benefis even during a brief course of care. Many nagging problems, for which drugs and surgery are routinely suggested, begin to resolve and heal. (Please refer to patient reviews and case studies of Dr. Conte's patients in the articles posted on this site)

What is Subluxation?
A subluxation is a condition of a nerve or nerves where normal electrical transmission is altered. The nerve may be irritated and firing too often as in muscle spasm and pain, or the nerve may be hypo-active and firing too little as in "pins-and-needles" sensations, numbness, weakness, or loss of function. The causes of these abnormalities are usually due to short or long-term pressure on the nerves. Chiropractic specializes in correcting this condition. (Please ask Dr. Conte for more on this: 404-784-6008)

How does chiropractic care work?
When you cut your finger or get a cold, you know your body will heal. If you cut the finger of a cadaver, you know that cut will never heal. The difference is known as the "life force" of the living thing. The energy you posess is used to make the healing happen. It has been demonstrated that chiropractic increases this life force through de-stressing the body by lowering heart rate, blood pressure and boosting immunity
(see: Chiropractic and the Immune System )

So, by making the proper adjustments on an individual patient, Dr. Conte helps the patient's body heal itself.

What is a chiropractic adjustment? Is it safe?
A chiropractic adjustment is the minor movement of vertebrae in the spine, manually or by instrument, usually without discomfort. The objective of this movement is to realign vertebrae that have moved out of place, restoring normal neurological and biomechanical function.

The noise that sounds is referred to as joint cavitation, where gases such as oxygen and nitrogen are released from the joint. This is not a problem, and chiropractic adjustments do not create a need for more adjustments, but rather fewer adjustments.

What can I expect from my visit to a chiropractor?
On your first visit, Dr. Conte will do a thourough history and examination to determine exactly what the problem is and which specific adjustments should be done for you as an individual patient. He will then review his findings with you and explain their implications so that you understand them. X-rays are done only when the doctor feels they are necessary. We have an excellent X-ray in our office.

Going to the Chiropractor is a new experience for many of you. If you are just fed up with living in pain, it's time to do something about it and make an appointment with our friendly and professional staff. Call: 404-784-6008.

What results can I expect from treatment?
Usually, people see results during or after the first visit. Big improvements in pain levels, symptoms, weight distribution, range of motion, balance and energy are the norm. Because of the level of detail and specificity Dr. Conte employs, the number of visits can be greatly reduced for the average person. Usually, three to six visits over one to two weeks are sufficient to clear a majority of problems.

Some cases require more care and this will be discussed with you.
